Barry Brown (2002)

Coxsone SOL 9797

Far East (Jah Shakey); Blazing Fire (I'm Just A Guy); Let's Unite (Fools Fall In Love); Give Me Your Love (Hot Milk); Sweet Music (Mean Girl); The Right Place (One Step Beyond); Roots And Culture (The Lecturer) // Give Love A Try (Heptones Gonna Fight); Bad Boys (Run Run); Children Children (Throw Me Corn); Have You Been Loving Me (I Love You); She Gwan Some Way (Fever); Let The Music Play (Mr Fire Coal Man); Dance Tonight (Mama)

Barry Brown released a couple of memorable titles on the Studio One label in the 1970s (Far East and Give Love - both included here) but Coxsone must have been keeping several more tracks locked safely away in the vaults. This album brings these all together, and adds another two titles recorded last year. Very much from the Sugar Minott school of vocals (with whom he collaborated in the Black Brothers and as part of the Youth Promotion crew) Barry Brown here presents a very enjoyable collection of new lyrics over old rhythms.

Only available on vinyl at the moment, but the cover certainly looks like it was designed for a CD release.
