IN MEMORY OF DON DRUMMOND2
Don Drummond

Studio One CSL-8021
matrix: C.S.Dodd 022701

Man In The Street; Don D. Memorial; Don Cosmic; Sound One; Don D. Serenade; Reload; Street Corner // Vat 7; Scandal; (title unknown)*; Cool Shade; Marcus Junior**; Thoroughfare; Green Island

* listed as Rock Away - but it isn't...
** listed as Lawless Street

Also released on CD (Studio One CD-8021).

You can hardly call this a reissue when it only shares 3 tracks with the original vinyl album (Man In The Street, Reload & Green Island). So quite why Coxsone should want to pass it off as a straight reissue instead of heralding it as a superb new collection featuring unreleased material defies understanding.

What we get are ten tracks that haven't been compiled on LP or CD before (well, not on Studio One, at least), and all great ska instrumentals. Certainly a "must have" for any serious ska collector.

Don D Memorial is actually Don Drummond's Memory by Roland Alphonso, a Treasure Isle production; Vat 7 was produced by Leslie Kong; Street Corner and Thoroughfare are Treasure Isle productions; and Marcus Junior was produced by Justin Yap.

Green Island; Scrap Iron; Man In The Street; This Man Is Back; Royal Flush; Reload // Far East; Sudden Attack; Walk The Town; Johnny Dark; Look Through The Window; Adis-Aba-Ba

Original press, without matrix number (well, none that I can see, anyway). Sudden Attack, Walk The Town and Johnny Dark are Prince Buster productions.

The catalogue number would suggest that this was considered for a UK release on the blue Coxsone label, but was only issued in Jamaica. The original sleeve is printed on off-white paper mounted on buff coloured card, and there is no printer credited. ((Click sleeve to enlarge.))

Later 1970s reissue on a Coxsone label. The sleeve is printed on white card by Adprographics.

Green Island; Scrap Iron; Man In The Street; This Man Is Back; Royal Flush; Reload // Far East; Sudden Attack; Walk The Town; Johnny Dark; Look Through The Window; Adis-Aba-Ba

1980s repress in a reproduction sleeve with white border on the opening edge and no printer credited. I think the red & yellow label pre-dates the rosette label - both have the Coxsone's Music City, Brooklyn, New York address on Side 1, but the rosette label has the Brentord Road, Kingston, Jamaica address on Side 2 instead..
